As the AFM process works:

The use of media/chemically inactive folder and non-corrosive, is used to improve the surface finish and edge. The abrasive particles in media/folder rectify the unwanted material out, instead of cutting them out.

The material removal rate depends on the following factors:

• The media flow rate/folder
• Viscosity
• Abrasive particle size
• Abrasive concentration
• Particle density
• Hardness of particles
• Hardness of workpiece

The AFM process controls the rate and pressure of the flow media/folder as well as volume, type and temperature and, consequently, the amount of material that is removed.

For any application, the material removal rate per unit volume can be determined and controlled to ensure reproducibility.

In many cases, the same batch of media/folder and can be used in different metals, no transfer of material removed between the different pieces.
